New Jailbreak available

Thanks to a new browser-based jailbreak, you can now jailbreak your iOS device easily now.

All you need to do is visit the site JailbreakMe site on a supported device and tap on the Free/Install button.

Supported devices are:

- iPad 1: 4.3 through 4.3.3
- iPad 2: 4.3.3
- iPhone 3 GS: 4.3 through 4.3.3
- iPhone 4: 4.3 through 4.3.3
- iPhone 4-CDMA: 4.2.6 through 4.2.8
- iPod touch 3G: 4.3, 4.3.2, 4.3.3
- iPod touch 4G: 4.3 through 4.3.3

The jailbreak works by exploiting a bug in Apple's PDF renderer. After jailbreaking, it is recommended that you close the security hole immediately with the patch provided.

Jailbreaking will allow you to install apps that have been disallowed from Apple's App Store and thus give you functionality that Apple has not permitted. Notable jailbreak apps include My3G, which will allow you to use FaceTime over 3G because it tricks FaceTime into thinking it is on a Wi-FI network when it is actually on a 3G network.

However, jailbreaking can result in your device becoming less secure and less stable. And if you have problems, you have to rely on the goodwill of the community to get it fixed because Apple won't help, obviously. This site, iMerlion, won't be much use either if you encounter problems.

The Dev-Team has an FAQ that you can read before deciding whether to jailbreak your iOS device. They also have a useful blog post about it.
