Tiong Bahru snatch thief caught because of Find My iPhone app

A young snatch thief has had his criminal career cut short unexpectedly thanks to Apple's Find My iPhone app.

Using the free app, the local police were able to track an 18-year-old man they believe is responsible for a bunch of snatch thefts in the Tiong Bahru and Kim Tian area, reported Channel NewsAsia.

The Malaysian man's downfall began when he grabbed a woman's iPhone while she was walking along Lim Liak Street in Tiong Bahru in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Unbeknownst to him, the woman had activated the Find My iPhone service on her iPhone and the police were thus able to track the perp. He was finally arrested on Monday in Outram Road and on being asked politely by the cops, apparently confessed to previous thefts.

This is believed to be the first time that the local police have used Find My iPhone to solve a crime.
