Cut your SIM card without a SIM cutter

If you don't want to spring for a SIM cutter to cut your SIM card down to MicroSIM size, you can still cut your old SIM card using nothing more than a pencil and a pair of scissors.

Local developer Lee Lim bravely captured his SIM cutting efforts on video from start to finish. The four-minute long video shows the cutting process and the trimming involved.

Note that if you manage to cut the gold contact on the SIM card, you will ruin your card and you will have to fork out money for a new one. We recommend that you cut your second SIM card (perhaps the one you were planning to use for your iPad) so that if you do ruin it, you will still have a phone to use. If you only have one SIM card, perhaps some practice might be in order unless you're good at DIY.

I cut without using pencil to mark out. Still not bad :)

A picture of my Singtel SIM card for reference.
