Local developer creates anti-theft app

It's easy to have your iPhone stolen. You leave it on the table while you're having lunch and someone walks by and quietly slips it into their pocket. You look up from your plate of chicken rice and you realise you've been robbed.

Thanks to the good people of BAK2u, you can now protect your iPhone. PhoneSCREAM is a neat little app that will let off an alarm if the accelerometer detects that it has been moved.

How PhoneSCREAM works

1) Open app
2) Tap on 'lock' icon
3) Leave phone on table

If anyone picks up the phone, within a preset time (default is 2 seconds), a siren will go off. (You can also change the sound it makes or record your own sound). To disable the sound, hit the home key.

Pretty neat app. It would be better if Apple would allow background apps so you can just start this up and never have to remember to turn it on.

My only gripe is that if your iPhone is set to silent mode, the phone vibrates instead.

According to BAK2u CEO Paddy Tan, after their original anti-theft app was rejected by Apple, they went back to the drawing board and broke up their original app into smaller component parts. (See here and here).

PhoneSCREAM (iTunes link) is available on the App Store for just US$0.99
